I'm a firm believer that entertaining can (and should be) hassle-free and fun. The key to making sure your party is just as enjoyable for you as a host as it is for your guests is creating a stress-free vibe right off the bat, starting with the moment the table is set. As someone who entertains regularly, and with holiday soirees kicking into high gear, I'm always looking for clever ways to add a unique twist to my table.

One of my go-to's for vintage party finds is the local thrift store. I took a trip there recently and was reminded just how much room there is for budget-friendly, creative table decor. Keep these tips in mind over the next few months and your holiday fete will be the best bash of the season!

1. Think outside the box

Let yourself get creative by using thrift store purchases in a unique way. Many entertaining-related items can be re-purposed in an even better way than what they were originally intended for. Putting an old vintage cheese box to use as a rustic-inspired floral centerpiece vessel adds such an unexpected spin to the table, not to mention, also serves as a great conversation starter!

2. Get eclectic

Mixing old with new and vintage with modern is a surefire way to add a special and meaningful vibe to the table. Instead of buying an entire set of matching vintage teacups, pick up an assortment in various colors to add a bright vibrant feel to each place setting... and imagine the history each piece carries. And, an antique silver teapot does double duty for displaying flowers instead of serving piping hot drinks.

3. A special spin

Bring extra attention to newly purchased gold or silver vintage flatware by tying the set up with pretty ribbon and tucking in a sprig of lavender or cinnamon stick. This little touch takes less than one minute, and shows guests you took one extra step to add a festive twist to their place setting.

4. Make it modern

Although thrifting usually falls under the vintage category, those with modern taste shouldn't be wary of picking something up to add to their collection. If you find one antique-inspired item such as white salad plates with a simple silver rim, try layering them on top of a solid white dinner plate, footed bowl and topping it with something unexpected like antler-inspired napkin rings for a cozy winter touch. Fill solid white vases with bright red flowers for a show-stopping and bold holiday twist to your table.
