If you ask my 4-year-old daughter what she'd like to be when she grows up, she would tell you she wants to be one of two things: a doctor or a princess.

And usually when she responds in this way I sigh and tell myself we need to watch a lot more HGTV in my home and a lot less Disney Jr. Much has been written about the pitfalls of little girls seeing success as finding Prince Charming and having a super tiny waist and abnormally large, childlike eyes. So I won't dive into that topic.

But there is a real-life princess who can serve as an actual role model to little girls (and grown ones too) and that is the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. As part of her princess post, she has chosen charities to work on like Action on Addiction, Royal Patron of East Anglia's Children's Hospices and the Royal Patron of the Art Room, to name a few. She has also created her own non-profit, The Royal Foundation, along with her husband Prince William and brother-in-law, Prince Harry. It goes without saying that her humanitarian work helps many and brings attention to very worthy causes such as fighting addiction and the importance of self-esteem in children.

And on top of this, there appears to be a very real, approachable, dare I even say it... normal air about the Duchess of Cambridge.

I personally fell in love with her when she exited St. Mary's Hospital in London after delivering Prince George of Cambridge wearing a perfectly appropriate postpartum dress that did not hide the baby bump that still remained, reminding everyone what a woman actually looks like days after giving birth.

It is reported that the The Duchess, who has suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum (severe pregnancy sickness), stayed with her parents for a while when she wasn't feeling well this time around... because really, when you are feeling your worst, no one makes you feel better than Mom.

And when Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge visited New York City in December, they took a commercial British Airways flight to JFK airport.

She was also recently spotted with some gray hair appearing at the roots of her hair, just like a normal woman who is in her 30s.

Yes, Kate Middleton is stunning and beautiful and has a team of people who are responsible for helping her with many of the things that you and I do on our own, but the fact that she doesn't appear to reinforce the unattainable standards of beauty that the fictional princesses can is what is actually worthy of my daughter's attention.

So what I am saying is, I'd totally love a play date with her and Prince George... instead of hunkering down with my daughter to watch another episode of Sophia The First.
